Hiroshima

We made a brief stop in Hiroshima on our way back to Yokohama.

Cosette played peek-a-boo with on the bus to the train station. The space between the seats gave her just enough room for her to stick her face in. She is the best!

My emotions were mixed while we were in Hiroshima. My home town was part of the Manhattan project that helped build the atom bomb during World War II. I felt very sad about the events that happened during WWII but I was happy to see that the city and people had recovered and rebuilt what they had lost.

This is what it looked like right after the explosion. Below is what the atomic bomb dome looks like today.

We drove past the spot where the atom bomb exploded over the city. It exploded at 8:15 on August 6, 1945. Our visit was a couple weeks shy of the anniversary. This plaque marks the spot where the bomb exploded above the city.

We spent the majority of our time at the museum. It is worth a visit if you are ever in Hiroshima. It is at the front of the city's peace park.

We then jumped on the shinkasen (bullet train) headed on our way back to Yokohama.

We were very sad to part ways with the Yamanas. They were wonderful hosts and great tour guides. We were very lucky to have them take us around the area. We will miss them.
