Miyajima

Miyajima is an island home to the famous "floating" torii archway. Miyajima translates to shrine island and has been a sacred area for about 1,500 years. The Itsukushima Shrine is located there and is one of Japan's holiest Shinto shrines.
Miyajima is located a half an hour train ride from Hiroshima. Dr. Yamana was speaking in Hiroshima so we went to visit the beautiful Miyajima with Mrs. Yamana.

We decided to walk out to the archway since it was low tide. The water was really really hot and not really refreshing. It was fun to see how far could get. There were huge pieces of sea weed in the water. I did not want to go to far out because the water was really murky and I am kind of a chicken. It was still fun.

We spent the afternoon at the Miyajima Aquarium. It was a small aquarium that featured aquatic life from around the Japanese islands. There were some interesting looking dolphins that were playing with a ball. Cosette like looking at all the differnt fish in one of their massive tanks. Here she is pointing at all of them.

That evening we enjoyed a seven course authentic Japanese meal. I am not sure what everything was but we ate it.

After dinner the Yamanas had a special treat for us. A night cruise around the Torii Arch! It was beautiful. A perfect way to end a wonderful day.

Miyajima was one of favorite places we visited on our trip. I am so gald we had this wonderful experience.
