An Impromtu Visit to Japan

The Columbia Japanese Society hosted a Japanese festival on Columbia's campus and we got to "travel" back to one of our favorite countries we have visited. On the way there we told Cosette we were going to Japan and she said "mmmm!" So I think it is safe to say she enjoyed Japan as much as we did.

Tokyo is always the first place you will stop in Japan. It is where the airports are. And from there you can get any where you want in the country pretty easily. We loved our time in Tokyo. (posts here, here, and here).

Cosette and I tried played a fish catching game. You have a hoop with a paper net and try to catch a fish before the paper breaks. It is not easy. We lasted about five minutes.

After out stop in Tokyo we took the shinkansen (bullet train) to go see some surrounding areas.

Made a stop at Mt. Fuji. Coco was not impressed with this giant mountain. Wish we would have gotten to see it last summer. We passed it on our train ride back to Tokyo but it was too cloudy to see.

We stopped off at Nara to see the deer again. However, we were disappointed that the Big Buddah was not mentioned. Nara does house the biggest Buddah in the world.

Yummy sushi.

They were giving out fans! Everywhere we went in Japan people were handing out fans likes this, which during the summer you are so grateful you have one. (It was so humid!)

Beautiful cherry blossoms have been in full bloom there right now. Wish we had been over there in the spring last year to see them.

We played another catching game. This time we were trying to catch a balloon. Lyndon helped Cosette catch the balloon then she would throw it back in the water. We finally were able to get her to stop throwing it back in the water and then had to show her how it worked. She thinks it is a ball that's why she kept throwing it back in. It is like one of those punching balloons but a lot smaller.

What would our "trip" to Japan would be with out getting some delicious food. If you ever run into the Hibachi truck in Manhattan it is delicious. We are still thinking/talking about the food. Itadakimasu!
