Cambridge Day 1

We are home! Well our fist home anyway. A few weeks after we got married Lyndon started a masters program at Cambridge University which moved us across the pond to England. We spent most of our first year of marriage there while Lyndon did his program. We made a lot of memories and had the best time exploring this charming city. When we decided we were going to Paris we immediately started making plans to go back to Cambridge and visit. It has been nearly three years since we have visited this place and it felt like we have not left. Some things have changed, but not a lot. We spent several wonderful days reliving our Cambridge days. It was the best!
We stayed with friends who did not live to far outside the city, so naturally we decided to walk into the city center. This way we could walk along the Cam River just like we used to. All the Colleges have their boat houses along the Cam. Lyndon is posed in front of his. The year we lived here Lyndon's College won the intramural bumps race. The boats are arranged in single file trying to bump the boat in front of them without getting caught by the boat behind. There was a lot of celebrating at Downing College that summer.
The Queen's swans live along the Cam. Every year St. John's College is allowed to serve them for Christmas dinner.

Literally heading down memory lane from our first married days.
Our first place of residence as a married couple. So many good memories made here. I cannot call it a flat because it was just a room with a bathroom. The common room  and kitchen we shared with the residence in the house. Dinners while living there were a cultural experience. It is international student housing so everyone was from another country and we the only Americans who lived there during our day. It was so fun! We have maintained relationships with many of our friends we made there. We did stop by to see if the land lords who were in charge of the place while we were there still lived there, and sadly they had returned home. They were a wonderful couple and we were sad to have missed them.

These houses I dubbed the "witches houses". They look like a place where a witch would live.

When in England eat Indian food, and lots of it! Seriously forget the fish 'n chips and grab some chicken tikka and naan bread. We stopped off at the Curry King because our go to place was closed that day (boo!). England has the best Indian food! We ate so much of it while we lived there and cannot seem to ever get our fill of it. It is our favorite.

Daddy and Henry getting ready to skip the line and enter Trinity College. Since Lyndon is a Cambridge Alum he has what is called a "Cam Card" which gives us a few perks like getting into all the Colleges for free. We can skip the lines and walk on in, but only after dealing with the porter. They are the keepers of the keys and gates in Cambridge. Do not mess with them. They will always win.

Our friends were so nice and offered to watch Cosette for the day (best friends ever)! They have two children close in age to Cosette, so she would rather stay with them anyway. It was a treat to have so much one on one time with our little Henry.
Another Henry shot because I can never have to many pictures of my children, and this one is a sweet one of him. I love this little boy.
Trinity College Chapel. We had to visit every college's chapel. They are all so unique and beautiful. It is so wonderful to have a spiritual refuge on the campus.
I will never get over the stain glass here It is beautiful and I absolutely love how it illustrates Biblical stories. Lyndon showed me that when we fist moved over here and ever since I have look to see which ones are being illustrated. It's fun.

On the left me and big H with a statue of William Wilberforce and on the right we are enjoying the beautiful architecture at St. John's College.

St. John's College grounds.

The courtyard at Trinity College.
Pretending to run around the court yard, because this is where in film Chariots of Fire the epic first race takes place. I do not think I could make it around the court yard in a minute. It was only because I am not wearing the right shoes.

At the front of Jesus College, probably my favorite one in Cambridge. It has the most beautiful grounds. I absolutely love it here.

These are the gorgeous doorways at Christ's College where Darwin attended.

Just hanging out with Darwin at Christ's College.
We were walking down King's Parade when we saw an old friend playing his music just like he did back when we lived here. It is nice to know that somethings never change.
We finished off this glorious day at King's College for evensong. What a treat! If you ever get the chance you have to go to evensong at King's College. There is no excuse to miss it. The choir sounds like angels from heaven. Lyndon loves attending evensong and whenever we go to church or cathedral he always starts singing or chanting away. He gets that from attending evensong.

It was pretty much one of the top days of all the traveling we have done in all our Europe travels. We have missed Cambridge so much more than we thought. We are so grateful we got to go back.
