Three Birthday Celebrations for my Three Year Old


Cosette turned three today. It is tradition on birthdays we each say something nice about the person. Here are three things about Cosette: 1. She tells the best knock knock jokes. 2.She is exceptional at doing puzzles. 3. She is very good at making friends where ever she is. Oh there are so many nice things I could say about this kid! She really is special. There are not many sweeter kids in all the world. Me, Lyndon, and Henry are so lucky to have her in our lives. That is why we celebrated her birthday three times this year! I did not plan it this way, but that is how it worked out. What can I say, we like to party!
The first celebration was the big family celebration. About half of the family was going to be gone on her actual birthday and instead  celebrating it later we celebrated it early so people would be here. And I think with the homemade cake and ice cream they were happy we celebrated it early too.
Ready to open her presents! Her favorite would have to be a playdough set we got her and her pink sparkly shoes. They have a little heel on them. She has been prancing around the house in them ever since.
Henry was trying to get in on all the present action. Someone had to hold him while Cosette opened her presents because if he was put down he headed right towards them. I think he is going to be excited about his birthday.
Birthday celebration number two was her friend birthday party. If you know Cosette you know that she loves her friends. Every where we go she asks if friends are going to be there. So she was most excited to have a birthday party for her with all of her friends there. Thank you to everyone who came!
Singing "Happy Birthday" to herself with her friends. She was in heaven. 
The last, but most special (in my opinion) was today on her actual birthday. It is one of the best days of the year on my calendar. She had a couple of more presents to open (because I forgot to wrap one). We had birthday pancakes for breakfast and sang "Happy Birthday" to her this morning and a lot more throughout the day. 
We gave her my American Girl Doll, Kirsten, as a present this year. It should be a something that she can appreciate now and in the future. Plus it is a great excuse to go to the American Girl store in NYC.
Yes she was.
And we went to Baskin Robbins to get some ice cream!

Traveling Half Way around the World

We made it to Manila! We flew over the US and the Pacific Ocean to get here. Our total travel time was 55 hours. It was long but surprisingly not bad at all. Cosette was an angel and the Haneda Airport in Tokyo was like a hotel. If those two things had been any different attitude in writing would not be so positive. This odessy of a journey begun way before our first flight. Packing up our apartment for our subletters took a lot longer than we supposed it would. So instead of being refreshed and ready for the long trip over we were tried and I did not want to get out of bed. We got enough sleep to keep on going till our flight from NYC to San Fransicso where we tried to rest. Remote Learning Part 1

Remote learning is over for now, thank goodness. We have been doing remote learning since March 20. We are experts at google classroom, zoom meetings, and google meets. It's been rough, but we did it!  This post is long and detailed about what each kid had to do everyday for school. It was intense. The kids did wonderfully. Their teachers are amazing! They worked around the clock to learn all the new technology, meeting with students individually. I received personal phone calls from them asking what they could do to help and also talking to my kids. I am so grateful for the teachers they had this year.  All three kids participated in remote learning. Each grade/teacher did something different. What they all had to do was answer and attendance question by noon, read for thirty minutes a day, and I-ready (an assessment program that helped determine where they were in math and reading).  Third Grade: Cosette's assignments were what she was doing in school. Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! This has become one of my favorite holidays in the last few years. This year especially I am really into it. It probably has to do with my sweet Lyndon who proposed to me on V-Day four years ago. Since then he has made Valentine's Day a fun and special day. He always surprises me with something fun. Usually we go eat some where fabulous and go see a ballet or opera. He likes to do something cultural on this speical day. This year I am getting into the spirit more. Cosette can do a lot more things. We made special Valentine's for our families and made yummy cookies. She kept sneaking cookie dough and eating it. She is my daughter.  The finished product waiting for Lyndon. I went to the Cake Boss Bakery last year to get Lyndon something for V-day and was inspired to make the dark chocolate bowls filled with chocolate covered strawberries.
