Macy's Thanksgiving Parade 2014

Happy late Thanksgiving! We started ours off early, early, early in the day at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! Third time's the charm because this year all our plans for the parade went smoothly and we did not have any problems meeting up or having to deal with cranky cops (and let's face it everyone is cranky at that time of morning).

Lyndon's sister and her boyfriend were visiting for the holiday so we had to show them how we New Yorkers do Thanksgiving. Okay, we crazy New Yorkers. I think most people just sleep in or if you are super lucky look out your window as the parade goes by. Next year our plan is to be the ones who sleep in, but we'll see. I do not like getting up early, but the parade is so fun!

The boys get up at 3:45am to get to our planned spot on time. It sounds crazy to get up that early, but if you want the prime spot on the west side of Central Park West you gotta get there pretty early. Us girls and babies also get up pretty early so we can be at the area by 6am. We brought chairs, food, blankets, and entertainment for the kids and camped out till the parade started. Henry and Cosette are troopers. Both were not to happy about getting up that early and sitting outside in the cold. Even when the parade started Cosette was not too impressed. She was a hit at the parade though. There are people who walk along with the floats dressed up that will give you high fives or throw confetti in your face as they walk by you and Cosette got five different people coming up to give her high fives, handshakes, "Happy Thanksgiving", and lots of confetti. I got several handfuls thrown in my face. Not complaining because we were right there in all the action! She did perk up when the Sesame Street float came by. That is her favorite right now. She talked about that one for the rest of the day.

Other highlights were seeing the American Fork High School marching band, the Hello Kitty balloon, Thomas the Train on his first flight in the parade, "Thunder Thighs" which is what me and my sisters call the Spiderman balloon (his legs are huge!), KISS, Harlem Globe Trotters, and Idina Menzel. And it started to snow in the middle of the parade! It made the whole event more festive. The Santa this year was the best. He was so energetic, waving, dancing, cheering as the rode by on his sleigh. It was the perfect way to bring in the Christmas season into the city.

Now enjoy our little film of the parade and Happy Holidays!
