Baby Chicks!

The most exciting thing that we did while in Tennessee was hatch baby chicks! My Mom knows a farm where you can get eggs to hatch and then return them after they have hatched. The kids were really excited for the chicks to hatch as you can imagine. They would check on them inside the incubator almost everyday. Then finally the week of the reunion the chicks started hatching. They actually started hatching the morning we left for the mountains. It was an exciting time for everyone. I was excited to see them hatch. Cosette kept calling them little cuties and named several of them. Her favorite chick she named "Miriam from New York" after one of her bffs here. I thought that was especially sweet.
The chicks in their new home. They got so fluffy after they dried off. They were cute, cute, cute! I am a sucker for baby animals. It's amazing that we don't have a puppy or kitten.

Cosette and her little cuties. These chicks were well loved while they were with us.
Grandma explaining to the grandkids about how they chicks crack their shells open. Witnessing that part of the hatching process was probably the coolest.
Henry is an animal lover and loved those littles. He heard Cosette say "they are so cute" and then he started saying it. Talk about cute! Hearing him call them cute was adorable to the max in his little toddler voice.
The morning we hosted the kid activity was about the chicks. My sister Bethany teaches kids about the environment as part of her job, so she was the perfect teacher for this. She told them to pick one finger and that was their touching finger, haha. The activity was a huge success! The kids learned about birds, made bird puppets, and had a "bird feed" snack (basically just homemade trail mix with some fun add ins).

Aunt Ellen and Cosette with the chick I think they name Sasha.

I'm really grateful that my Mother put together this activity for the kiddos. Living in the city they do not get many experiences like this. It was really special for the them. Next year we want to hatch ducklings! Henry will be over the moon because ducks are one of his favorites. Maybe we will be ambitious and hatch an emu instead. I guess the sky or bird's our limit.
