School Time: Henry’s in Pre-K

Henry started Pre-K in September. We are lucky in NYC and there is free Pre-K for all, as long as you get into a program. The process is more stressful than applying for college. The school we are zoned for did not have any openings at all. There are a few programs close to Cosette's school that are really good. I could not apply till we had a NYC address. Once we got approved for our apartment I was pounding the pavement, well the email and phone trying to get Henry into a good program. He had already completed a year and a half of school, and I wanted him to continue the momentum he has on his education.

Since we missed both deadlines to apply for Pre-K we were on long waiting lists at all the schools. At our number one choice we were 117th on the wait list. I had been calling them and emailing them all summer, so when I went to talk to them in person they were like oh it's you, haha. Miracles of miracles happened and after the first week of school I got a call and they had a spot for him. He started the following Monday.

It is a great little school, and we are so lucky that he is there. He has made friends and always happy when I pick him up. I love it when he talks to me about school. He does a lot. At Halloween they learned a bunch of fun songs that we sung over and over again. He changed the words to some of them, and I loved hearing his modified version of the songs. Along with all he is learning, he has also gained a great love for chicken tacos.

I do not get to go into the classroom very often, but they send weekly emails about what they have covered that week in class. They also have a webpage where they up load pictures every month. Tons of pictures coming your way since I have not done any blogging about it since he started.

The school put on a fantastic Halloween party. Henry was so excited to wear his glow in the dark skeleton costume. He is on the far right. You can barely see him, but he is there.

The kids have quite time everyday, where they can nap or read books. Henry kept insisting on taking his Star Wars blanket that he sleeps with every night, so I bought him one just for school. That kid loves his Star Wars.

They made these wreaths during the fall. We hung it on our door, and Henry was so proud of it. It is still hanging up in our apartment.

The school provides lunch, and all the kids take a snack. Henry has his BB-8 lunch box he takes every day with his second lunch. He eats so much! When he packs it himself it is full of giant oranges and apples. He often tells me to pack him five oranges, five apples, carrots, and hummus.

Henry and his two best friends.

The kids made a subway car for their transportation unit. While they were working on this project, Henry would tell e every day that black and white make blue.

Henry is quite the builder and takes pride in his creations. I really hope he becomes and architect when he gets older. In this picture he is wearing one of his favorite shirts. He loves the color red, because it is Lyndon's favorite color. Although, he still will say his favorite color is orange and blue.

The kids have started learning how to write their names. They sign in at school every morning. Henry always takes up several lines, and puts about 20 lines to make his E. As his mother, I find it freaking adorable. We love his little school. Best of all he loves it too!
