The Snowy Days

Image
We had our fourth nor'easter of the year last week. It snowed and snowed and snowed. Nothing like a blizzard to say happy first day of spring. The kids had school off that day, and with it dumping snow the entire day we did not go out. I am a wimp when it comes to snow and being cold. However, the next day had a blue sky, the sun out, and snow still on the ground.  That lead to me running. While running, I got the brilliant idea to take Rapha sledding! We bundeled up in our snow pants, boots, wool socks, all of which I bought on our drive from Tennessee at New Years. It was so cold, I vowed I would never be cold again (we still are sometimes). We are doing our best to stay warm. Rapha was not a fan of his snow pants. I put them on and he cried. Funny thing is my friend was late meeting us, because her kid also cried when he had to put on his snow pants. I finally opened up our sled that has been sitting in a brown box, on top of our coat rack. I did not want to open it up

Girls Visit

Image
We had my Mom, and sister visit for their spring breaks. Their trips overlapped, and we were all excited to have the company.  Since they have both been to NYC several times, we do not have to do all the sight seeing. Our neighborhood is great, and we really do not have to leave it to experience NYC. Ellen and I continued our sister tradition of having hot chocolate at City Bakery, and making a stop to Strand Bookstore. It's our thing we do every time she comes to visit, and I really look forward to it. My Mom and I ran several times in Central Park. That is our thing. I do not have a running buddy up here, so it was nice to have someone to talk to. The new things we did were going to the Neue Galerie to see the Woman in Gold painting. A visit to Mood Fabrics to check out fabric for Ellen's upcoming wedding. The Orchid show at the Botanic Gardens. The St. Patrick's Day parade. Introducing Ellen to Books of Wonder, our favorite book store in our hood. Thai food from

A Night With Andrew Lloyd Webber

Image
I had the amazing opportunity to attend a live Q&A with the esteemed Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Close, and her dog. The night was about his new autobiography,  Unmasked , which I am so excited to read.  The man is the first person since Rogers and Hammerstein to have four productions on Broadway at the same time.  Phantom  is the longest running Broadway in history, and  Cats  is the fourth. I have seen both of those productions, and. both amazing.  Cats  is my favorite of the two, but I am partial to  Phantom  because Christine. I love love love the music in  Cats . It's very playful and describes cats perfectly. Love it!  He and my Dad would get a long well. Webber loves the song " One Enchanted Evening " from  South Pacific , which my Dad loves, the film and the song. He would come home from work coming through the door belting it out to my Mom. I loved it. Me and all my siblings remember him doing it, and I think I can say that movie holds a speci

St. Patrick's Day

Image
It's our first St. Patrick's Day back in the States. There are some celebrations in Singapore. I did attend a dinner with the Irish ambassador to Singapore last year. It is not the same as celebrating it in NYC. I love this holiday because of the food, haha. I really do not do much as far as leprechauns and rainbows. I do make corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, with Irish soda bread every year. We do all wear green, and go to the St. Patrick's Day Parade on 5th Ave. Yay, for St. Patrick's Day!  We had our first Easter egg hunt of the season with members of our church from all the Manhattan congregations. That was a lot of fun. The kids were so excited. Rapha kept running out to pick some eggs up before it was time to go. Of course, when the kids were told "go" there was a stampede. The Alexander Hamilton statue provided a nice ledge that a lot of eggs were sitting on. Cosette and Henry ran there first. Rapha was just cute grabbing eggs, and then running
