Remote Learning Part 1

Image
Remote learning is over for now, thank goodness. We have been doing remote learning since March 20. We are experts at google classroom, zoom meetings, and google meets. It's been rough, but we did it!  This post is long and detailed about what each kid had to do everyday for school. It was intense. The kids did wonderfully. Their teachers are amazing! They worked around the clock to learn all the new technology, meeting with students individually. I received personal phone calls from them asking what they could do to help and also talking to my kids. I am so grateful for the teachers they had this year.  All three kids participated in remote learning. Each grade/teacher did something different. What they all had to do was answer and attendance question by noon, read for thirty minutes a day, and I-ready (an assessment program that helped determine where they were in math and reading).  Third Grade: Cosette's assignments were what she was doing in school. She completed two huge

Mid-Winter Break

We had a lovely week off  mid February. We stayed here and enjoyed not having a schedule. That was my favorite part. We could sleep in, leave the house later, stay up past bed time and not have to worry about being anywhere we did not have to be. We used our Disney Plus like never before, and watch a different movie every night. Our list: White Fang, Sonic (at the movie theatre), Toy Story 4, Moana, Monsters University, Star Wars Episode I. Three different types of dumplings on one plate. My mouth is watering.  We're Super Sonic! Best movie I have seen in a long time. I loved it. The kids did too, which is why we went. Casting and story were great. It has Jim Carrey in it. I love Jim Carrey! Rapha threw up his hands and cheered in the middle when Sonic destroyed a car. It was super sonic cute. We have been dancing around singing Super Sonic for a while now.  Rock climbing is our new thing. After going with my Dad at Christmas (here), Cosette ha

Happy Father's Day to one of our favorites, and Pa too! We celebrated Father's Day in Tennessee, where we have been hanging out for a while.I have not felt like blogging for a while, but his day was a good one, so why not? I made blueberry drop-biscuit cobbler for breakfast, because Lyndon loves to have dessert for breakfast. It was the first day of attending church at a church building since March. We had Lyndon's favorite foods lunch. We started that tradition last year. It consist of cheese, chocolate, olives, pesto, mini  stroopwafels, hummus, veggies, salami, and home made bread. Both Dads were happy.  The kids and I found a stuffed animal beaver for Lyndon. They are his favorite animals, and we never find any beaver stuff. He was very happy with his new toy, lol.  We went to the lake and swam in the late afternoon. It was not crowded, and very easy to social distance there.  Lyndon really enjoyed himself and talked about what a good day it was.  The kids favorite thin

School Time: Chinese New Year Project

Gong xi fa cai! Happy year of the rat! My Chinese New Year activities were limited to helping out with a activity in Cosette's classroom. A group of us moms volunteered and we had a very fun mourning.  I called upon Cosette's teacher in Singapore, who I am so lucky to still be in contact with (those teachers are the best!). I asked her what children in America should know about CNY. She gave me some great ideas and a cute video (ironically made by Panda Express) that gave a really good history behind all the CNY traditions.  We decorated a lion head, practiced our Chinese calligraphy, had some traditional treats called love letters  (they look like Pepperidge Farm Priouettes without any filling), hong boa (red envelopes) filled with chocolate coins, and have our very own lion dance.  I put together the lion head, thank you Pintrest. I really enjoyed putting it together. The kids cut out red construction paper for the lion's fur. I got some paint pens , so t
