Boo at the Zoo, Wizard Edition

Image
We have been inundated by Hogwarts students this Halloween. We are not anywhere close to Hogsmeade, so instead I took the students to the Bronx Zoo for a weekend outing.  A secret of adulthood: it is better to stick to your plans and get out than stay at home. It was so true! I was so exhausted from a week of solo parenting, and thought of maybe staying in my bed longer was a fantastic idea. The allure of Halloween celebrations got me out and bed and away we went on our "Hogwarts Express" aka the 2 train. We had such a wonderful time. I would never trade these memories for anything.  We are Harry Potter obsessed! I made the kids be HP characters this year, since they got their robes and wands at Harry Potter World. Not dropping any more cash on costumes kids. They happily have gone along with it, especially when they get to wear awesome accessories (the glasses, lightning bolt tattoo, and a Potter Stinks pin, the best!). I am loving this HP obsession, and am fully

Happy Day Farm

Image
Our weekends are filled, and I am trying to pack in as many fall activities as we can. On Columbus Day, a friend and I took our kiddos out to New Jersey to Happy Day Farm to get that classic down home fall fest, and pumpkin patch experience.  We could not have asked for a more beautiful day, and a more fun place to take the kids. The farm had all the activities going, since it was a holiday. We got there and all the kids went in all different directions. There was so much to do. We played, ate, played, played, played played, pumpkins, played, home.  The pumpkin patch was my favorite part. Do not ask me why, but pumpkins just make me happy, incandescently happy. If you can remember the line from Pride and Prejudice , when Elizabeth tells Mr. Darcy he can only call her Mrs. Darcy when she is incandescently happy, that is how happy pumpkins make me. I am a weirdo.  This pumpkin patch has a really cute section with a house made of pumpkins, and all sorts of displays that influenc

Eston and Hannah Tennessee Reception

Image
My little (big) brother, Eston, got married this summer! All I can think is what? Where has the time gone? I am happy it has gone to this stage of his life. His beautiful bride, and my new sister (!!!!!) Hannah had a lovely reception in Tennessee a week before their wedding in Kansas City, MO. They are living in Hawaii, so it made sense to make their way back home from the most easterly spot. I was only one from my little Plothow family to go down for the reception. Grateful for those who helped me make it happen. I got to see a lot of family (especially cousins) I do not get to see that often. I loved catching up with all of them, and my favorite (and only) niece, Ruby! She calls me Aunt Mommy, and I absolutely love it!! Best part meeting my lovely new sister, Hannah, and her family. Eston picked the best one out there. Hannah, I love you! And Eston, I guess I love you too, haha. Eston is my sibling twin as you will see from the photos below. In Eston Dunn fashion it was a party.
