The Great Smokey Mountains

We spent a day up in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park with my Daddy. He is the Scout Master at the church right now. That means he goes on a lot of hikes and back packing trips so he knows the trails pretty well. He took us up to the Bud Ogle Farm on a small hike so Cosette could walk the whole way if she wanted to. She likes to walk.

As expected Cosette demanded to walk the whole time.

The hike was just under a mile and along the way there are numbered points that point out areas that the Ogle family lived or places they used. Above is the remains of the cabin that the children would use the first year they got married. Below is the grist mill they used.

This wooded pipe system is what they used to get running water to the cabin and farm.

We ended up getting off the trail on accident. It just kind of disappeared on us. It turned out all okay though. We found the road that goes through the park and walked back to the farm.

Kind of worth getting off the path because we got to see several deer up close.

The Bud Ogle house and barn below. Pretty amazing that people could come back here and make a living for themselves.

Had to get a picture with the sign. Thanks for the great hike Dad!
