Henry's First Medal

Henry ran his first 5K over the weekend! He and I did the NYC Color Run together. A few years ago Cosette and I ran the Singapore Zoo 5k (post here), and now Henry is big enough to wear her shirt from the race. Henry loves it when we both wear our Singapore Zoo 5k shirts together. Recently, he asked  if he and I could do a race, so we could have our own matching race t-shirts. On the morning of the race, though, Henry was not so sure that he wanted to run anymore. With a little encouragement (and some shameless bribery) he agreed to go and we all pack into a taxi.

The race was really relaxed. They let people start from 9am-10am in waves, and they let everyone run or walk at their own pace. It was held at the Mets Citi Field in Queens. We started in the Met's stadium and got to run around the edge of the baseball field! That was the best part of the race. Okay, maybe running through all the color zones and getting coated in the rainbow was the best part.

Henry did a good job running the first mile. He was so excited! He was cheering and jumping up and down while we waited to start. We ran around the entire field together. We made sure to not stop in that first lap. I asked him while we were walking/running what his favorite thing about living in NYC is? He said, "Running the color run with you mommy." He is so sweet. I know that is not his favorite thing in the world, but I also know he does love spending time with me.

Daddy, Coco, and Rapha were waiting for us at the last half-mile. Their cheers really helped us end the race well. They even joined in running through the last color zone with us. The kids were the cutest cheerleaders. Henry ran over to Rapha gave him hugs and kisses. Rapha joined hands with us at the finish line and ran through it with us. Cosette had on her rollerblades and Dad pulled her around on his scooter. It was really fun.

Now Henry has his first medal! Next year we are going to run it as a whole family. Happiest 5K on the planet!

Everyone got a color packet to throw at each other. We all got colored!

One more of me and Henry pre race, because his face!
