Hey Let's go Trick or Treating!

Halloween was really fun this year. Cosette is finally old enough to understand what is going on which made this Halloween the best! The kids were Totoros for Halloween. The whole month she kept telling people that she was going to be Totoro for Halloween. Cotsette was really excited to dress up as Totoro.
Cosette took this picture of me carving the pumpkin. I tried to do a catbus face, but it did not turn out quite like it was supposed to.
If you are unfamiliar with Totoro it is a character from Japanese filmmaker Haiyo Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro. It is a really cute movie that I grew up watching and now Cosette and Henry watch it. Cosette loves Totoro. She even has a stuffed animal we got while traveling in Japan. I was not sure if she really wanted to be Totoro and asked her several times if she would rather be a princess or something else, but she was very adamant that she wanted to be Totoro. She was the big grey one and Henry was the little blue one.

The best picture I could get of them.
My favorite part of the night was running into a group of Japanese ladies who were so excited when they saw the kids. They asked "Totoro?" and I said "yes" and they went crazy with oohs and awws and kawaii, which means cute in Japanese. Anyone who was familiar with Totoro could recognize that is what the kids were, and we got a lot of "look! It's Totoro" throughout the night.

Halloween was a pretty full day for us. We had a party in the morning with friends from Church. Then after Henry woke up from his nap we went down to one of the parks that was having a parade and free cider and doughnuts. We missed the parade but got some free cider and doughnuts. And we got to see the bagpipe players who led the parade into the playground. We then walked up to our trick or treating neighborhood and trick or treated along the shops on Broadway on our way up. At first Cosette was really shy about saying "trick or treat", but we practiced at the shops on broadway, and in no time she was saying loud and clear "trick or treat!", "thank you", "Happy Halloween!".

Lyndon was able to meet up with us and enjoy trick or treating with us. I love the street that we go on. It is always decked out and a lot of the people passing out candy dress up. It literally is a big Halloween party! One brownstone plays music and they played Thriller while we were trick or treating. That was awesome.

We held tight on to our hats just in case we ran into No Noggin. We did pretend to run away from him for a little bit.
Our favorite door of the evening.
Ready for some treats!
Henry enjoyed some treats through out the night. It was a long day for the blue Totoro, but he handled it well.
I love how this city does every holiday right.
My Neighbor Totoro.

Henry had been in the front pack all afternoon and had had enough of it. He was ready to walk and get his own candy. Watch out candy givers, the little blue Totoro is on the move.

We sang Hey Let's Go on our walk home. It was a great night.
Happy Halloween!
