Boston!

Aside from Monday's events at the Marathon, the trip to Boston was a blast! The city is so chock-full of American history, I love it! I wish that we could have spent more time there. Mom had a bunch of Marathon events that she attended so that left me, Cosette, and Dad to go tour the city.

Here we are in front of the Old State House. It is Boston's oldest public building built in 1713 as the seat of the British colonial government. In this building the Royal Governor and the Massachusetts Assembly debated events that lead up to the American Revolution including the Stamp Act and the Writs of Assistance. The Declaration of Independence was first read from the balcony of this building. Awesome!

Oh, and the Boston Massacre occurred right in front of the Old State House. So much history in one place!

The balcony where the Declaration of Independence was first read to Bostonians.

We went with Mom to check in for the Marathon. The place was packed. There were a lot of vendors with running supplies, and lots of free samples. I tried a bunch.

After checking Momma in she went to a spaghetti dinner provided for all the runners. Dad and I started our exploring at the Old State House and then ventured down to Faneuil Hall Marketplace. It had a lot of interesting shops and places to eat.

Cosette enjoyed playing in the hotel. She would climb on top of the pillows grabbing onto the head board and then would free fall back onto the bed. She is fearless, sometimes. She has her shy moments. I love her.

Massachusetts State House is right off the Boston Commons. I love the gold dome of the building. It reminds of the Hotel de Invalides in Paris (post here).

Kings Chapel is one of the stops along the Freedom Trail in Boston. Several Founding Fathers attended church services here.

Robert Could Shaw and the 54th Regiment memorial. He lead the first regiment of African American volunteers in the Civil War.

Baby girl was spinning and jumping around the hotel room all morning long.

On the left is the Temple Baptist Church the first integrated church in America. I just love architecture. I was snapping pictures of it before I even knew what the building was. On the right is a view of the Old State House.

Here is the last picture that was taken on the trip. I took it because Boylston is the street where the Marathon finishes. We had not heard about anything that had happened at this point. It was less than twenty minutes after the bombs went off. I hope all who were affected recover as well as this beautiful city.
